Eyecare Supplements

Our optometrists can advise you on the benefits of the various lutein-containing food supplements, designed to protect your macula. The large AREDS clinical trial (2001) has found that taking high levels of antioxidants and zinc can reduce the risk of developing advanced age-related macular degeneration (AMD) by about 25 percent, but only in those already at high risk of doing so. Book in for an eye examination to discuss this with the experts.

Nutrof® Total is a tablet taken once a day. It contains Lutein 10mg & Zeaxanthin 2mg, which are essential carotenoids for protecting the retina from oxidative stress and signs of aging. It also contains Resveratrol 1mg, which is a powerful antioxidant shown to protect retinal cells, and Omega 3 with a selection of vitamins, for the maintenance of normal vision.

This is suitable for diabetics and past or present smokers, but not suitable for vegetarians as it contains fish oil and bovine gelatine.

Lens Cloths & Cleaners

Continued use of clothing and tissues to wipe your lenses will cause small scratches, which may not be obvious, but can degrade the lenses’ coatings. This results in poorer quality vision and increased glare, particularly at night time. We recommend cleaning your lenses with a specialist lens cleaner and micro-fibre cloth, to maximise their performance. You’ll see better and your lenses will last longer.

Cases, Cords & Sports Bands

We have a range of different cases in many colours and finishes. They are strong and practical, protecting your glasses when you’re not wearing them.

Both practical and stylish, we have chains and cords so you can keep your new glasses safe and easy to find by having them around your neck when you’re not using them. These are particularly useful for reading glasses. You can choose from a range of colours and materials to coordinate with your specs.

If you need to wear glasses for sports, our selection of sports bands will keep your glasses in place no matter how active you are!

Magnifiers

Whether you are partially sighted or just need help with intricate work, you may benefit from a magnifier. They can be simple hand held lenses or can be mounted on stands with extra illumination. Ask in store if you need extra help, alongside your reading glasses.

Clip on & Over-Spec Sunspecs

These are designed to fit over the top of your existing spectacles. They may not be as stylish as our tailor made sunglasses, but they offer a practical solution if you want temporary protection from the sun, whilst still being able to see clearly. Cocoons’ Fitovers utilise scratch-resistant Polare, a 100% polarised lens systems which blocks peripheral light without compromising the wearer's range of vision.
